Can I give my remote's coloured buttons a job?

Many remotes have coloured buttons or extra shortcut keys that do nothing in most apps. In Zenith you can put them to work.

What Remote buttons does

Remote buttons lets you give the coloured and shortcut buttons on your remote a job. Once set, the button works across the app and inside the player, so you can use it while browsing or while watching.

Setting up a button

1. Open your profile avatar in the top-right corner.
2. Go to Settings → Remote buttons.
3. Choose Set up a button.
4. Press the button on your remote that you want to use.
5. Pick the job you want it to do.

Repeat for each button you'd like to use. It's a good idea to start with one or two and add more once you're used to them.

Ideas for getting started

Think about what you do most often. If you jump to the Guide a lot, or open Search often, giving that a button saves several presses each time. Keep the layout simple so everyone at home can remember it.

A button doesn't respond

If you press a button and nothing happens, work through these:

1. Check it's set up. Go back to Settings → Remote buttons and see if the button is listed. If not, use Set up a button again.
2. Set it up again. If it is listed but doesn't work, set it up once more and press the button firmly when asked, so the app records the right key.
3. Check the remote itself. Make sure other buttons work. Weak batteries can make some presses go missing.
4. Restart the device. Turn the TV box off and on, then try again.

Some buttons can't be used

Not every remote sends every button to apps. Some keys are kept by the TV or box itself, such as Home. If a button never shows up when you try to set it up, the device isn't passing it on, so choose a different button instead.
