Which Buffer setting should I choose?

The Buffer setting decides how much video the app gets ready before playback begins. It's a trade-off between how quickly a channel opens and how well it keeps playing on a weaker connection.
Where to find it
- Open Settings.
- Go to Playback.
- Select Buffer and choose one of the three options.
What a buffer does
Before a channel starts, the app loads a little video in advance. That stored video acts as a cushion: if your internet slows for a moment, playback carries on from the cushion instead of stopping. A small cushion means a fast start, while a bigger one means a longer wait but more protection against dips.
The three options
Auto
The app chooses for you. This is a sensible place to begin, and many people never need to change it.
Fast start
Channels open quicker. This suits you if you have a strong, steady connection and like to flick through channels. On a slower or busy network, you may see more stops during playback.
Fewer stalls
The app waits a little longer before playing, but copes better with slow internet. If you often see a loading wheel during programmes, this is the one to try.
Quick way to decide
- Channels stop often during viewing: choose Fewer stalls.
- Playback is smooth but channels take a while to open: try Fast start.
- Not sure: leave it on Auto.
Change one thing at a time and watch for a while before deciding. That way you'll know which change made the difference.
Buffer can't fix everything
A larger buffer helps with short dips, but it can't make up for a connection that's too slow overall. If buffering continues:
- Restart your router and your TV box.
- Use a wired connection, or the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network if your router has one.
- Try another channel. If only one channel stops, the issue may be that stream from your TV provider.
- In Multiview, each stream uses bandwidth, so try fewer streams.
